Marisa Combs, Corporate Counsel and VP of Sales & Business Development at Five Points Benefits Solutions
Marisa Combs holds two executive leadership roles at Five Points, as both Corporate Counsel and VP of Sales & Business Development. As a full-time attorney on staff since 2016, her primary focus is on risk management and compliance efforts for the business and its clients. This includes software functionality design assistance for the entire employee life cycle, from the time they are hired through offboarding, including required notice distribution, annual ACA reporting, employee status tracking, COBRA and benefits administration, HIPAA compliance, ADA, FMLA/FFCRA, and IRS Section 125 compliance.
Most recently, Marisa was at the forefront of the COVID-19 pandemic and has established herself as one of the leading authorities on the topic as it relates to public entities. Within days of the national emergency being declared, Marisa was gathering information and aligning with the right individuals and resources to make sure Five Points had its finger on the pulse of the pandemic and its impact to public sector. Since March 2020, she has conducted 40+ webinars that have provided critical education and updates to over 3,000 public officials. Topics have ranged from FFCRA, CARES, COVID-19 impact on COBRA/HIPAA/ERISA, reopening schools, ADA issues, FMLA and unemployment issues, FFCRA rules based leave calculator (especially helpful for part time / variable hour employees), FSA’s & Section 125, retirement plan issues, educating employers on “afraid to work” scenarios, determining whether or not to declare the workplace a critical infrastructure, policy changes and much more! In addition to her educational webinars, she is one of the most sought-after consultants on these topics. Marisa has provided dozens of one-on-one consultations, group administrator trainings, strategy sessions, and unemployment claim assistance from pandemic increases.
Marisa holds a J.D. from the University of Tennessee College of Law and B.A. in English from Samford University. She has 15 years of experience as a licensed attorney before entering the employee benefits industry full-time in 2016.
